Commission’s Functions

The Commission performs the following as its main functions:

• To prepare electoral rolls before each general election and to register all eligible voters.

• To delimit the constituencies.

• To recognize various political parties and to allot election symbols to these parties.

• To prepare a code of conduct for the political parties

• To tender advice to the President regarding disqualification of members of Parliament.

• To conduct elections to Parliament, state legislatures and the offices of President and Vice-President.

• To appoint election-officers to consider disputes regarding election arrangements.

• To prepare roaster for central broadcasts and telecasts by various political parties.

• To always keep voters’ lists up-to-date.

• To issue Identity Cards to the voters.
